Women's Basketball Drops GPAC Match Up to Northwestern
Orange City, IA – The Hastings College women's basketball team fell on the road to Northwestern 79-61 on Saturday afternoon inside the Bultman Center.
There was plenty of action in the first quarter as both teams shot the ball well. The Red Raiders grew an early 8-3 lead but a jumper from Miriam Miller followed by a three from Alyssa Baker tied things 8-8 with just under 7:00 to go in the quarter.
The lead grew back to five but Mariyah Avila found an open look and drained a three to make it 13-11. Northwestern then led by three when Baker was left alone again as she drained another three to tie the game 15-15 with 4:08 to go in the first period.
Northwestern would once again push the lead back to five points at 22-17 but Hastings would finish the quarter with a Lexi Kraft jumper as HC trailed by just three 22-19 heading to the second quarter.
Early in the second quarter, HC would get a three from Kraft to make it 26-25 but the Red Raiders would go on a 12-0 run to open up a 13 point lead and never really looked back. HC did trim the lead down to seven in the third quarter but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the way.
Rachel Goodon led the way for Hastings with another double-double scoring 12 points while pulling down 11 rebounds. Avila finished with 10 points while Miller added 10 points off the bench while going 5-for-8 from the floor.
The Lady Broncos finished the game shooting 36.7 percent (22-for-60) while Northwestern shot 43.1 percent (28-for-65). Rebounds went in the favor of the Red Raiders 46-to-31.
Hastings falls to 9-10 (5-8) on the year and will be back in action Sunday Jan. 28 hitting the road to take on Briar Cliff with tipoff set for 2:00 pm in the Newman Flanagen Center in Sioux City, IA.
