
Women's Basketball Blows Out Mount Marty, 90-52
(Hastings, NE) – The Broncos took care of business on Wednesday after their big win over Dordt this past weekend by blowing out Mount Marty, 90-52.
Junior Mariyah Avila scored the first two baskets for Hastings, then after a three-pointer by junior Alyssa Baker made it 7-2, freshman Ann Bose made one of two at the line and drilled a three to go up 11-2 with 4:50 left in the first. Baker concluded the 13-2 start with a layup.
Leading 13-4, Bose drove and scored. Hastings pressed and senior Kiernan Paulk stole the ball, finding sophomore Bailey Kissinger for the layup to go up 17-4. They led by as much as 16 in the quarter at 22-6 when freshman Mikah O'Neill scored inside. The Lancers were able to get within 14 at the end of the quarter.
Junior Macy Bryant opened the quarter with a layup and Kissinger and sophomore Rachel Goodon later scored in close to go up 28-10 with 7:43 left in the half. Paulk and freshman Adyson Mlnarik knocked down threes to put Hastings up 20.
Mount Marty went on a bit of a run in the last half of the quarter, getting as close as 13 with two minutes left. Kissinger and O'Neill each made a free throw to put Hastings up 41-26 at halftime. The Broncos held the Lancers to 37 percent shooting in the first half, as Kissinger and Bose each had eight to lead Hastings.
Avila and sophomore Tathis Arredondo scored five points in the first minute of the half to re-establish momentum up 20, then freshman McKenna Yates and Avila traded baskets with the Lancers to go up 21 two minutes into the half. Yates scored five of the next seven Hastings points, including a three-point play to go up 27.
Bose came off the bench and scored six quick points as Hastings extended its lead to over 30. Baker's triple put the Broncos up 34 at the 2:53 mark and Avila closed the quarter strong with five points in the last minute, including a buzzer-beating layup to put Hastings up 72-37 going into the fourth.
Hastings opened the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run with scoring from Goodon, Yates, Bose, and Kissinger to go up 82-37. The lead gave the Broncos a chance to give their reserves some playing time and the Lancers were able to cut into the lead a bit, scoring 15 of the last 23 points to make the final score, 90-52.
The Broncos shot 45 percent overall and held the Lancers to 31 percent and 10 percent from three. Hastings held a 55-40 advantage on the glass and forced 25 turnovers, scoring 30 points off of them.
The bench stepped up again by scoring 55 points with 16 from Bose and 11 from Kissinger, along with three rebounds. Avila had 14 points, three rebounds, and 3 steals, while Yates also added 12 points, four assists, and two steals. O'Neill led the team in rebounds with six to go along with seven points and three assists.
