Women's Basketball Makes History with 116 Points In Runaway Win
(Hastings, NE) – History was made in Lynn Farrell Arena tonight when senior Whitney Bauer's putback jumper sank through the net in the closing seconds of the 116-52 win over College of Saint Mary, surpassing the previous record of 115 points.
The Flames scored on each of their first three possessions to take a 6-4 lead, then Hastings responded with a 13-0 run. Junior Mariyah Avila started the run with a three, which was followed by a basket from freshman Jentri Marx. Avila and freshman Ann Bose, who was recently named GPAC Offensive Player of the Week, hit back-to-back triples, then Bose concluded the run with a layup.
Saint Mary broke the run with a basket with 3:57 left to make it 17-8. Marx scored a basket shortly after, then converted on a three-point play following a Saint Mary three-pointer, putting the Broncos up 22-11. Freshman Adyson Mlnarik concluded the first quarter scoring with a three to give the Broncos a 25-11 advantage.
Junior Macy Bryant dominated the beginning of the second period, scoring four baskets in the first 1:35 of the quarter, as Hastings scored the first 20 points of the quarter. Freshman McKenna Yates and Arrendando each scored to open the second half. Bryant scored the next two Hastings baskets, then Bose, who had nine points in the quarter, came in off the bench and knocked down a three and a two-point basket to put Hastings up 78-27.
