Women's Basketball Falls to Grand View

Hastings, NE – The Hastings College women's basketball team lost to Grand View 81-57 on Friday night inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
It was all Vikings in the first half as GVU jumping out to a 50-27 lead by shooting better than 50 percent from the floor while the Lady Broncos right at 25 percent from the floor.
But Hastings would battle getting a free throw from Alyssa Baker and a Whitney Bauer layup and trail 59-38 with 1:58 to go in the third quarter.
Then Lexi Kraft sliced through the defense getting a tough layup to go to make it 59-40. After the teams traded baskets, Kraft got to the rim again for a layup and then Riley Clavel finished the quarter with a free throw as HC gained some momentum now trailing 61-45 heading to the fourth.
The lead grew back to 20 but two more free throws from Clavel and a three from Mariyah Avila made it 65-50 with 8:23 to go.
Tathis Arredondo then went to the rack and got fouled. She made both free throws and then Kraft drained a three as the Lady Broncos were within 10 at 65-55 with 6:15 to go in the fourth.
But this would be as close as HC would get missing a few opportunities with a few missed shots and turnovers that could have brought the deficit into the single digits but the Vikings would prevail 81-57.
Clavel led the team with 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting while Kraft added 13 points. Avila added nine points while Baker finished with seven points. Arredondo added six while Kiernan Paulk pitched in five points.
Rebounds went to Grand View 53-to-33 as Rachel Gooden led Hastings with nine.
Hastings is now 2-2 on the year and will be back in action Friday Nov. 17 hitting the road to take on Jamestown with tipoff set for 5:00 pm inside the Harold Newman Arena up in Jamestown, ND.
