Warriors Take Down Broncos 26-7

Warriors Take Down Broncos 26-7

(Fremont, NE) – Looking to gain some momentum going into their homecoming game next weekend, the Bronco football team fell 26-7 at Midland on Saturday afternoon.

Hastings looked for a big gain on their first offensive play of the game, but had their pass intercepted, but the Broncos did not allow points off of the turnover.

A well-executed punt by the Warriors pinned the Broncos at their own two, enabling Midland to get favorable field possession after a three-and-out. Midland took a 7-0 on a 21-yard run on the third play of the drive.

The Broncos were able to get a first down on their next drive, but a big loss on second down of the next set of downs forced a punt. Hastings was able to turn the Warriors over on downs midway through the first half after Midland got down to the Hastings 19, but linebacker Caden Egr and Jake Lambert combined for the tackle on fourth-and-four.

Midland would score late in the first half on a third-and-nine 34-yard touchdown pass to take a 14-0 halftime lead. The Warriors got down to the Hastings 10-yard line on their opening drive of the second half, but Hastings held them to a short field goal after three straight incompletions.

Hastings struck fast on their first drive of the half, as sophomore quarterback Carson Kudlacek found junior wide receiver Quaesean Hill on a crossing route for a 67-yard touchdown pass, trimming the lead to 17-7.

The Warriors responded later in the third quarter with a touchdown to go up 23-7, but missed the extra with 3:50 left in the third quarter. Midland later got a field goal in the fourth quarter, giving them a 26-7 lead.

Hastings did have one more big play, as sophomore Colton Marsh picked off Midland in the endzone to keep the game at the 26-7 final.

Kudlacek was 11-20 for 114 yards and a touchdown, while Hill had two catches for 69 yards and a touchdown. Lambert and fellow linebacker Jayden Roberts led the team with 15 tackles.

The Broncos will host Doane at 1pm on Saturday, Oct. 26 for their Homecoming matchup at Lloyd Wilson Field.
