(Hastings, NE) – In a home matchup against the Midland Warriors, the Hastings Broncos took momentum early and never looked back, securing the 103-60 win.
Senior Macy Bryant scored the first two baskets of the game and after Midland got within one at 6-5, Hastings went on a 6-0 run by getting four of those points at the line. Leading 12-8, sophomore Josilyn Miller scored twice and scored shortly after to build their lead to nine with 3:19 left in the first. Sophomore Ann Bose drilled a three to go up 12 and the Broncos would take a 30-19 lead after one.
Midland kept it close early in the second, getting to within six at the 7:35 mark. Hastings then went on a 13-0 run, keyed by 10 points from Bose, to take a 47-28 lead with 3:23 left in the half. Miller scored twice and junior Bailey Kissinger added two points to put the Broncos up 53-35 at the break.
Senior Mariyah Avila set the tone in the third quarter, scoring three of Hastings' first four baskets during the first-and-a-half minute of the period. The Broncos went up 30 following a Bose three and two more from Kissinger with 7:08 left in the third. Leading 81-50 with less than a minute left in the period, sophomore Adyson Mlnarik drained a triple and after Warrior basket, Bryant beat the buzzer with a bucket inside to take a 86-52 lead to the fourth.
Mlnarik hit another three early in the fourth quarter and shortly after a three-pointer from sophomore Stella Heapy, Yates put Hastings up by 40 at the foul line, 96-56. Sophomore Jentri Marx scored the next two baskets to get Hastings to 100 points with 4:26 remaining. Later in the fourth, sophomore Olivia Malousek got on the board with a free throw, along with a basket from freshman Catelynn Bargen to wrap up the 103-60 win.
For the game, Hastings shot 56 percent from the field and 47 percent from three, holding Midland to 41 percent from the field. Hastings outrebounded the Warriors, 44-29, and scored 36 points off of 19 turnovers.
Bose had a game-high 23 points on 4-6 from three, along with four rebounds and two blocks. Miller had 14 points off the bench and had five rebounds and two steals. Yates finished with 13 points, eight assists, and five rebounds. Kissinger chipped in with 13 points, six rebounds, and three steals.
