Women's Basketball Delivers 41-Point Home Win Over Flames
(Hastings, NE) – In a home game against College of Saint Mary on Wednesday, the Hastings Broncos held serve on their home court with a 99-58 controlling win.
Senior Macy Bryant started the game strong with two three-pointers and later scored two more at the 7:21 mark to put Hastings up 12-4. Bryant drilled her third triple of the period, as the Broncos led 17-10 halfway through the first quarter. Freshman Catelynn Bargen came off the bench and scored six of the next eight points to take a 25-10 lead. Bryant scored twice more to end the quarter with 15 points and a 31-13 lead.
Junior Bailey Kissinger finished twice at the rim and accounted for six of the first eight Hastings points of the second quarter to go up 41-20 with 6:49 left in the half. Leading 43-20, sophomore McKenna Yates scored seven of the next nine Bronco points, then back-to-back steals by sophomore Jentri Marx turned into transition layups at the other end, leading to Hastings taking a 58-23 halftime lead.
Hastings shot 57 percent from the field in the first half, holding the Flames to 26 percent overall and 20 percent from three. The Broncos had a 30-18 rebounding advantage and turned them over 14 times, leading to 21 points. Bryant had 17 first half points on 7-8 shooting and making all three from downtown.
College of Saint Mary scored six quick points early in the third, but Hastings answered with points from Bryant and Yates, taking a 63-29 lead at the 7:55 mark. Bryant hit her fifth three of the game from the corner, then Hastings went up by 42 on an and-one by sophomore Ann Bose. The Broncos would take a 77-33 lead heading to the fourth.
Freshmen Amirah Pena and Ashley Bauer poured in threes in the fourth, then freshman Dalia Durant and sophomore Olivia Malousek scored to give all Broncos points on the night, as they went up 90-45 midway through the fourth. Bargen, Pena, and Durant would again score later in the quarter, securing the 99-58 victory.
Hastings shot 45 percent from the field and held College of Saint Mary to 33 percent for the game. The Broncos outrebounded the Flames 56-40 and came away with 16 steals on 26 forced turnovers.
Bryant led the way with 23 points with five three-pointers, as well as three steals. Yates had 15 points and six assists, while Kissinger stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Bargen came off the bench to contribute 12 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.
