#2 Dordt Surges Past Broncos in 2nd Half

(Hastings, NE) - In a rematch that was one-sided in their first meeting, Hastings kept it close and had chances to tie the game late, but #2 Dordt ultimately prevailed, 97-87.

Dordt scored the first five points of the game and junior Bailey Kissinger scored Hastings first seven points, as they trailed 12-7 with 5:54 left in the first quarter. After a 5-0 Defender run, Hastings responded with an 11-0 run, with sophomore Josilyn Miller scoring nine of the 11 points. Dordt stopped the run with a second-chance basket, then sophomore McKenna Yates splashed home a three to take a 21-19 lead at the 1:22 mark. An and-one from senior Mariyah Avila concluded the first quarter scoring, as Hastings led 24-19.

Kissinger opened the second quarter scoring with a three-point play and with Hastings leading 29-28, sophomore Stella Heapy knocked one down from deep to take a 32-28 lead with 6:49 left in the half. Senior Macy Bryant contributed seven points, including five from the line down the stretch. Dordt would take a 45-43 lead at the 1:58 mark, but the free throws from Bryant put Hastings up 46-45 at the half.

Tied at 46 early in the second half, Bryant hit from deep. From there the two teams traded leads, with Dordt taking a four-point lead at the 8:03 mark and Hastings retaking the lead at 63-61 with 5:14 left on a jumper from Miller. The Defenders would respond and pulled ahead 75-69 late in the third. After two free throws by Heapy, Dordt drained a three to end the third with a 78-71 advantage.

A two from Bose and a triple from Avila following a Dordt basket made it 80-76, but Dordt pushed the lead to 10 at the 6:45 mark. Bose scored the next seven Hastings points in the span of one minute to get back within five. Bryant trimmed it to three at 90-87 with four minutes left and Hastings had three chances on offense to get closer or tie it, but Dordt ultimately got stops and took a five-point lead with 1:34 left at the line. Hastings would not score the rest of the game as the Defenders took the 97-87 win.

Dordt shot 57 percent from the field and 46 percent from three, while Hastings was 40 percent from the field and 23 percent from three. Dordt had a 45-37 advantage on the glass. Hastings forced 21 turnovers and scored 17 points off of them.

Kissinger led the team with 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Bose added 15 points and eight assists, while Miller contributed 15 points, four rebounds, and three steals off the bench. Bryant finished with 12 points and three steals. Yates was also in double-figures with 10 points and five rebounds.
