Tanner's Big Second Half Fuels Women's Soccer Win
(Sioux City, IA) – Hastings got down early and trailed going into intermission, but came out in the second half and scored three goals, the first two by sophomore Payton Tanner, to down Morningside, 3-1, on Saturday.
Morningside scored in the first minute of the game to grab a 1-0 lead. The Mustangs controlled much of the first half, taking eight shots to the Broncos' three. Sophomore Madison Rhodes got two shots on goal within the first 15 minutes of the game and sophomore Sabrina DeHart took Hastings' only other shot of the half shortly after.
The second half brought lots of offense from Hastings, beginning with a goal from Tanner in the 51st minute, assisted by senior Jesse Chartier and junior Madie Miles to tie the game at one. Tanner had another shot on goal in the 59th minute that was saved, but she scored again in the 61st minute off the feed from Rhodes, putting Hastings up 2-1.
Rhodes put the game away with a goal in the 81st minute, as freshman Sofia Rabinovitz set her up for the goal that put Hastings ahead 3-1. Sophomore goalkeeper Tatiana Villasenor kept the lead with a couple of saves in the last few minutes to pull out the win.
Both teams took eight shots in the second half, with Hastings holding a 6-3 lead in shots on goal in that half. Rhodes took four shots in the game, three of which were on goal. Tanner took all three of her shots in the second half, all of which were on goal. Villasenor gave up the one early goal, but got the win with six saves.
