Second Half Offensive Explosion Keys Bronco Victory
(North Newton, KS) - After coming from behind late in their season-opener versus Graceland, the Hastings Broncos took the pitch against the Bethel Threshers. The Bronco offense broke out for three goals in the second half to win 3-0 and secured their first win of the season.
The first half was scoreless as both defenses held strong. Hastings got off eight shots, with three of them on goal, while only one of Bethel's two shots were on goal, as senior Jackson Pedersen saved it.
Seniors Dekota Schubert and Allison Seery took two shots, as did juniors Jesse Chartier and Megan Lampe in the first half. Both of Lampe's shots and one of Chartier's shots were saved by the Thresher goalkeeper to keep it 0-0 at halftime.
The Broncos took a 1-0 lead with a penalty kick goal by senior Dulce Lopez in the 57th minute as she beat the keeper to the right side of the net. A couple of minutes later, Schubert's header hit freshman Madison Rhodes in stride and she was able to kick the one-timer past the goalie, who was attempting to cut the pass off to make it 2-0.
Schubert would round out the scoring in the 88th minute, as Lampe hit a perfect corner kick to set her up for the header goal, making the final score 3-0.
Hastings wound up taking over twice as many shots (16-7) and almost twice as many shots on goal (9-5). They had nine different players with shot attempts, led by the nine from Schubert.
Up next, the Broncos will host Park University at 11am on Saturday, August 31 at Lloyd Wilson Field.
