Jina Douglas enters her 10th season as the head coach of the Hastings College Women’s Basketball team.  At Hastings College, she has continued the rich tradition of women’s basketball by making the national tournament in five of her seven seasons.  She has also left her own mark on the program as she recorded her 200th career win on Feb. 16th, 2022 against Midland University.

In 2022-23, injuries would pile up as the Lady Broncos struggled to an 11-17 season but did show a spark in upset wins over Jamestown, Dakota Wesleyan and Northwestern.

In the 2021-22 season, the Broncos finished with a 15-14 record while playing a mixture of returners and five newcomers on a consistent basis.  Senior guard Taylor Beacom earned second team all-conference honors, while senior Ali Smith and freshman Riley Clavel were named all-conference honorable mention.  The 21-22 team beat four teams that made the National Tournament and three nationally ranked teams during the season.

The 20-21 season was a rebuilding year after losing four senior starters from the record breaking team of 2019-20.  The Broncos struggled to an 8-16 record in the Covid shortened season.  Senior Kailtyn Schmit was named second team all-conference.

The 2019-2020 season was one of the most successful seasons in Lady Bronco history.  The team finished with a 30-3 record and a #1 seed at the National Tournament.  Unfortunately, the tournament was canceled due to Covid before the first round was complete.  Douglas was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Coach of the Year while senior guard Shandra Farmer was named the GPAC Player of the Year and an NAIA All-American.  Both Farmer and senior post Gabby Grasso were named first team all –conference.  Senior Sophia Pankratz was named second team all-conference and three players were named to the honorable mention team.  The team finished in the top 10 in the NAIA in six major statistical categories.  They also broke the school record for consecutive wins as they started the season 26-0.

Despite an injury ravaged season, the 2018-19 Broncos won 9 of their last 11 games to finish with a 20-13 record.  They made the National Tournament and won their first round game.  Junior Shandra Farmer was named second team all-conference.

The 2017-18 season was the Broncos most successful season up to that point of Douglas’s career.  The team finished with a 26-7 record and made the NAIA Elite Eight with a win over the 2-time defending national champion Marian University in the round of 16.  Senior post Rachel Jelden was named the GPAC Defensive Player of the Year while Shandra Famer was named to the second team all-conference.

During her first two years at Hastings College, Douglas led the Broncos to a combined 41-22 record and made the NAIA National Tournament in both years.  In 2016, Holly Hild was named the Emil S. Liston Award winner.  This award is the highest academic and athletic award for a women’s basketball player at the NAIA level.

In addition to coaching, Douglas served on the Title IX investigative team at Hastings College from 2015-19 and was the Assistant AD for Compliance in 2019-2020.

Douglas came to Hastings College from the University of Dallas.  She led her teams to a school record 63 wins and produced the program’s most winning seasons.  Eight of her players earned all-conference honors, including two players who received Newcomer of the Year in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, one of whom is current assistant coach Michelle DeCoud.  She was also the Senior Women’s Administrator during her last two years.

Prior to the University of Dallas, Douglas held assistant coaching positions at Augustana College, Southwest Minnesota State University and was a graduate assistant coach at South Dakota State University.  In addition to her coaching duties at these schools, she also taught college courses and served as game management supervisor for soccer and softball events.  She earned her M.S in sports pedagogy from SDSU.

Originally from Dannebrog, NE, Douglas graduated from Centura Public High School.  She ended her high school career with over 2,000 points and went on to become the starting point guard at the University of Nebraska for three years.  She was named Big 12 Honorable Mention her senior year and earned her B.A in nutritional science and dietetics from UNL.  She was inducted to the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame in 2019.
