Suttles came to Hastings College after a six year tenure as an Instructional Aide within the Northwest Public School District in Grand Island, NE. He worked with students of varying learning abilities in the special education and alternative education departments. While striving toward inclusion and aptitude in the classroom setting, Suttles helped students not only succeed in the classroom, but he spent time mentoring and preparing them for life in the real world.
During his time there, Suttles was also a six year assistant (most recently Defensive Coordinator) football coach with the Northwest High School football team. While at Northwest he helped the Vikings to five straight state playoff appearances, including one District Championship in 2019. In three years leading the Varsity defense, Suttles coached 13 All-District performers, as well as nine of his players achieving All-State honors.
Suttles was also a key assistant to the Northwest Lady Vikings basketball staff. During his five year stint on staff, he helped the Lady Vikes reach the District Final three times (winning the District Championship twice), Qualify for the state playoffs twice (including a trip to the semi’s and a State Championship). As an assistant, Suttles helped to develop ten All Conference players and two All State performers.
From 2001 to 2005, Coach Suttles studied his undergrad and played football at Kansas State University. He twice earned Big 12 Academic Honors, while also appearing on the dean’s list twice. During his time as a K-State linebacker under Head Coach Bill Snyder and DC/Linebackers Coach Brett Bielema, Suttles was a part of three winning seasons, three bowl game appearances (one being the BCS Fiesta Bowl in 2003, vs Ohio State University), and the 2003 Big 12 Championship upending then #1 nationally ranked Oklahoma, in Arrowhead Stadium. Suttles earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Marketing.
Coach Suttles lives in Grand Island, NE. He and his wife Ashley (Director of Surgical Services, Grand Island Regional Medical Center) have four children: Shanae, Caejon, Baelyn, Knyton.
